Mitchell County is beautiful rural area nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina. The local area is known for its outdoor adventures including hiking, camping, rafting, tubing, fishing, gem mining, golfing, and multiple festivals throughout the year. During the winter months the ski slopes are just next door. If you like the city life, it is also within an hour from Asheville (NC), Morganton (NC), Banner Elk (NC) and Johnson City (TN).
Full Job Description
Mitchell Medics will serve as the primary 911 EMS response service for Mitchell County, NC. The service currently runs two 24-hour and one 12-hour ambulance, all staffed with dual paramedics. Our goal is to provide the best evidence-based EMS care to the citizens and visitors of Mitchell County while displaying professionalism and respect for all.
We are looking for dedicated paramedics that would like to be a part of a team focused on setting the bar for rural EMS care. We promote a positive work environment that supports one another and encourages growth.
Job Title: Paramedic
Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide life-saving interventions for those in need, to provide prehospital and interfacility medical care to patients, to make a difference in people’s lives, to inspire, to support your team, and to grow daily.
Shifts: 24-hour trucks work a modified schedule averaging around 48 hours per week. 12-hour shift work a 2-2-3 rotation. Our service runs approximately 3,000 calls per year.

Duties:
- Respond to both emergent and non-emergent 911 dispatches.
- Follow protocols to treat patients at the paramedic level in the prehospital setting.
- Comply with local policy and protocols.
- Maintain a professional look and demeanor.
- Effectively interact and communicate with other emergency and healthcare professionals.
- Accurately and effectively document calls and patient interactions.
- Participate in training.
- Stay up-to-date on technique, as well as protocol, policy, and procedure changes.
- Maintain an open and effective line of communication with administration.
- Be familiar with and study local area including roads, geography, attractions, etc.
- Check assigned units daily per local policy to ensure that the unit and equipment contained within are ready for us in the EMS setting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Good Character.
- High school diploma or GED
- Current and valid Driver’s License from state of residence
- Current and valid NCOEMS Paramedic Certification (or able to obtain within 6-months).
- Ability to lift over 100 lbs. safely.
- Ability to be respectful, professional, and tactful with both patients and the general public.
- Ability to compose oneself during emergency situations.
- Knowledge and understanding of paramedic level curriculum based on national standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of paramedic level scope of practice for North Carolina.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCOEMS protocols, policies, and procedures.
Preferred:
- 21-years of age or older
- Field experience in EMS
- AHA certifications including ACLS, PALS and BLS/CPR
- Trauma certifications (PHTLS or ITLS)
- Knowledge of the local area.
