Hiring Full & Part-time EMT’s and Paramedics

Macon County Emergency Medical Services proudly protects 30-60,000 people living in an area of 517 square miles. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid status. Macon County EMS responded to 6618 calls in the year 2019.We are located in Western NC, just minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are approx. 2 hours north of Atlanta, Ga. and 70 minutes east of Asheville, NC.

Macon County EMS operates a county-wide ALS ambulance service at the NC EMT-Paramedic level. We currently have 41 full-time positions and 23 part-time employees working out of three stations: One in Franklin, one in Highlands, and one in the Nantahala Community. We have both 24/72 and 24/48 hour schedules. To support our crews, we staff a Shift Supervisor on a Paramedic level QRV and a Field Training Officer each on a 24/72 schedule. We have a robust Community Paramedic Program, Tactical Medics to support our Sheriff's Office and we are also a NC OEMS approved Level I teaching institution and provide in-house training for our staff.

Minimal Qualifications: EMT – Current NC EMT and BLS certifications.

                                  Advanced EMT - Current NC AEMT and BLS Certifications

                                  Paramedic – Current NC Paramedic, ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications

Additional Requirements: Must have a valid North Carolina class C driver’s license and must be able to pass a background check and agility test.
