CPR Instructor Course Prerequisites:

  2. Student must hold a current AHA CPR provider card (bring copy to class).
  3. Student must complete the CPR BLS Instructor Essentials Course (15-1420) on-line prior to the seated portion of the class through the American Heart Association at  https://shopcpr.heart.org/courses/instructor-essentials . There is $34 fee for this course assessed by the American Heart Association. Students should bring a copy of the course completion certificate to the class.
  4. Students required to have the appropriate instructor manual for the discipline(s) they plan to teach. BLS Instructor manual or Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Manual.

The 2020 AHA Instructor Essentials Courses are scheduled to be released in late 2021. Until the new 2020 AHA Instructor Essentials Courses are available, AHA Instructor candidates must follow the steps below to become a new AHA Instructor and earn a 2020 AHA Instructor eCard:

  1. After being accepted by an authorized AHA TC, complete an Instructor Candidate Application for the TC before enrolling in an AHA Instructor Course (will be completed in class if aligning with RCCC).
  2. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for the associated Instructor Course and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.
  3. Successfully complete the 2015 Guidelines Instructor Essentials Course for the discipline for which you are becoming an Instructor, including both the online portion and the classroom/hands-on session.
  4. Complete the 2020 AHA Guidelines Instructor Update eLearning Course for the discipline for which you are becoming an Instructor.
  5. Register on the AHA Instructor Network and be confirmed by your primary Training Center for issuance of their Instructor ID number from the Network, which must be used to issue provider eCards
  6. Successfully be monitored teaching within 6 months of completing the hands-on session of their Instructor Essentials Course (TC Coordinators may require additional monitoring, if needed)
