Lenoir County Emergency Medical Services Operations Manager


Key Duties: An employee in this class supervises a staff providing twenty-four (24) hour emergency and medical services, and the EMS training/quality assurance officer. Develops short term and long-range plans for equipment improvements and technical advancements for the EMS Division. An employee of this class oversees the Community Paramedic program and all personnel assigned within that program. This work includes constant coordination with UNC/Lenoir to ensure a good working relationship and up-to-date contract. Work includes personnel management, recruitment, retention and training, establishing policies and procedures, and the coordination with a broad variety of agencies served and equipment vendors. An employee of this class also assists in the selection of new department personnel, as well as the promotion process for existing department personnel. An employee in this class also prepares and maintains files and records, preparing reports, and does other related work as required. The employee must exercise independent judgement and initiative in dealing with personnel matters, as well as coordinating with law enforcement, and other local and state agencies.  The employee is also required to respond to emergency situations.  The employee is subject to the usual hazards associated with emergency service functions including work in, both, inside and outside environmental conditions, hazardous fumes, dusts, odors, mists, and gases.  Work may expose the employee to human blood or body fluids and thus the job is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Emergency Services Director.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:   Bachelors Degree (Emergency Medical Service or related field) and 2 years experience in emergency response service, including administrative work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of a valid North Carolina Drivers License. Certification by the N.C. Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic. As a requirement, must reside within 5 miles of the Lenoir County line.
