EMS Chief Salary –Grade 24 ($50,700 – $75,036) FLSA Status: Exempt Position Information: Full Time

The Town of Emerald Isle, NC is seeking qualified applicants for the position of EMS Chief to perform administrative and supervisory work in the management of emergency and non-emergency transport activities for the new Emerald Isle Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department.  This position is responsible for all aspects of the EMS program including budget preparation, administration, personnel, training, public contact and related responsibilities.  Additionally, the EMS Chief will perform EMT-Paramedic duties on a regular schedule in addition to Chief duties.  This work is performed under the supervision of the Town Manager.

Qualifications:  Ideal candidate will possess an Associate’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, and preferably a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, or Business Administration, or combination of related advanced education and work experience in the EMS field, advanced professional training or executive training, and at least 10 years experience in emergency medical services with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible management / supervisory experience in an emergency medical services agency,  OR  an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to fulfill the requirements of this position.  The successful applicant must possess certification by North Carolina as a Paramedic, prefer national registry as Paramedic, and must possess ACLS, CPR, PALS, and PHTLS (ITLS) certifications upon hire.  Must obtain an AMLS certification within 6 months of hire.  Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.

Selection Procedures:  Applicants whose education and experience most closely match the qualifications and desired attributes for the EMS Chief position will be scheduled for interviews and other activities.  It is expected that the full selection process will require approximately 1 -2 months or more from the application deadline.  An extensive background investigation of the finalists for the position will be conducted, to include a drug screen, reference checks with previous employers, criminal history review, confirmation of education and military history, site visits to the applicant’s place of employment, and other reasonable checks.
