District Chief Job Posting

Eastern Wake EMS, Inc. is currently accepting applications for a full-time District Chief position.  Salary is determined by experience.  Any employment offers will be pending drug screening and background check. 

The District Chiefs coordinate the day-to-day operations of emergency medical services for Eastern Wake EMS and are responsible for overseeing that the day-to-day operations are run in an efficient manner.  As a representative of management, the Division Chief will support the Eastern Wake EMS Inc. vision, strategic plans, goals and management.  The District Chiefs have operational control of the organization, accountable to the Chief of Operations. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be in good standing within the Wake County EMS System 
  • Satisfactory completion of the Wake County EMS Medical Director’s Clinical Evaluation for District Chiefs (may be administered as part of the District Chief selection process)
  • Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field and five years of experience as a paramedic; or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license and a safe driving record required (as determined by agency insurability or risk management requirements)
  • Credentialing as a Wake County EMS system paramedic. Maintenance of state and county paramedic credentials are required as a condition of employment
  • Wake County EMS System Field Training Officer
  • Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 is required
  • Current certifications as specified by the Medical Director

Minimum Knowledge:

  • Wake County EMS System Protocols and Procedures
  • Eastern Wake EMS service area
  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Incident Command System

Must have the ability to:

  • Supervise and direct the work of assigned personnel
  • Plan, monitor, and evaluate the work of self and others
  • Maintain records, both manually and by computer, and prepare accurate reports as requested by management in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, volunteers, paid staff, outside agencies, and the general public
  • Carry out educational or disciplinary actions with assigned personnel as needed
  • May perform strenuous physical tasks in potentially hazardous conditions and inclement weather

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in different environmental conditions including extremes of temperature.
  • Ability to carry 200 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to wear a full-face mask and any other equipment as required by the Homeland Security Act and OSHA
