Catawba County is recruiting for a dynamic EMS Training Officer to oversee all patient care protocol and polices and direct the continuing education and quality management programs in our Emergency Medical System, ensuring the best possible pre-hospital medical care is administered.



  • Oversee all patient care protocols and polices
  • Manage the Continuing Education Program for the EMS System including renewal of credentials
  • Supervise the Logistics Technician and Cleaning Specialists
  • Train new employees
  • Respond to events as Supervisor and/or Paramedic
  • Serve in on-call rotation for Emergency Management and other back-up on-call as needed
  • Assist with investigation of complaints of medical care and develop education plans for improvement
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, and training of new employees
  • Serve on local, regional, and state EMS Committees and Subcommittees for various purposes
  • Perform other related work as required by the position


  • AA Degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field, plus 5 years of field experience as an EMT Paramedic including 2 years in a supervisory/leadership/training role
  • Must maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic in the State of North Carolina
  • The Emergency Medical Services Training Officer is required to live within Catawba County for emergency response and on-call purposes.



  • Valid NC driver's license with safe driving record
  • Because of the nature of the position, the EMS Operations Supervisor must possess the flexibility to work a regular and on call schedule during night hours and weekends and the ability to work in conditions inside/outside and lift 250 pounds with one assistant.
  • NIMS Incident Command 100 – 400 training
  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician Level II Instructor - Paramedic in the State of North Carolina
  • Successful completion of an ACLS course and possess ACLS instructor certification
  • Successful completion of a PALS or PEPP course and possess PALS or PEPP instructor certification
  • Successful completion of a PHTLS or BTLS course and possess PHTLS or BTLS instructor certification
  • Successful completion of BCLS course and possess BCLS instructor certification
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local and state officials, employees, other responding agency personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced emergency medical care practices, procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies governing Emergency Medical Services in the State of North Carolina.
  • Thorough knowledge of the equipment and supplies used in emergency medical service.
  • Considerable knowledge of the current emergency medical service needs of the county.
  • Considerable knowledge of the vehicles used in emergency medical service.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Catawba County Personnel Code and Catawba County Emergency Medical Services Standard Operating Guidelines.




  • Certification as a Type 4 North Carolina Emergency Management Coordinator, University of North Carolina - Charlotte Emergency Medical Services Management Certificate or equivalent
  • Hazmat Operation certification
