It is the responsibility of this position to gather medical history and relay to doctor or hospital the extent of illness or injury; perform emergency medical care in accordance with established guidelines and written and verbal instructions from physicians, and transport persons to the appropriate medical facilities; and perform related tasks as required.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by EMT and EMT-I courses provided by the North Carolina State Office of EMS and a minimum of one year experience and training in emergency medical care. Additional requirements include a drivers’ license valid in the State of N.C., and the possession of (or ability to obtain) State of N. C. certification as an EMT at the Intermediate level. CarolinaEast Medical Center-Emergency Medical Services (CarolinaEast-EMS) has openings for EMT- Paramedic positions.

CarolinaEast-EMS provides Paramedic level services for the city of New Bern, Mutual Aid-ALS for Craven County, Pamlico County, Jones County and Beaufort County. CarolinaEast-EMS also provides inter-hospital critical care transports.

Based out of one station with an anticipated call volume of 7000+ for 2008, there are three trucks scheduled (7am-7pm) and two trucks scheduled (7pm-7am). All trucks are primarily staffed with 2 Paramedics each. Full-time employees are scheduled three 12-hour shifts per week with limited overtime.

Salary ranges vary based on years of certification at the current level, with shift and weekend differentials. Description of Work: Requires the individual to perform patient care and transportation duties up to the level authorized by the EMT-P certification in the State of North Carolina. In concert with state certification and local medical control, the incumbent will contribute to a busy metropolitan "advanced life support" ambulance service providing emergency, non-emergency, convalescent, and long-distance service. Work Description:

Minimum Training and Experience:

Graduation from high school or GED equaling and successful completion of an accredited EMS program. BLS Healthcare provider through the American Heart Association required. PALS, PEEP, ACLS, ITLS or PHTLS is preferred for ALS personnel. NC EMTP certification and 2-5 years busy 911 or critical care experience required, ACLS, PALS/PEPP, ITLS/PHTLS and AHA BCLS required. NRP preferred or required within 1 year of hire. NREMTP, CCEMTP, CICP or FP-C preferred.

NC EMT certification with a minimum of 1 year experience as EMT required. AHA BCLS required. Prior dispatch experience preferred. Certified Flight Communicator preferred. Must be able to multitask and handle high volumes of calls.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Responsible for rendering emergency medical care and life saving measures; operation of emergency vehicles and equipment; and reports. Employee serves as a member of a two-member ambulance crew responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary first-aid and emergency medical care, and transporting persons to and from medical facilities. Employees will perform various job related duties as required and work 24 hour shifts.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school including completion of an accredited EMS program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current certification through N.C. Office of Emergency Medical Services as an EMT-I Must possess and maintain a good driving record and valid N.C. Driver’s License.
