General Description of Work Performs appropriate level life support work in the Emergency Medical Services program. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, and transporting persons to a medical facility. Work includes participating in community outreach education and prevention programs, preparation of vehicles, cleaning of vehicles, building and grounds, participating in continuous in-service training, and providing assistance to members of volunteer emergency medical service organizations, as requested. Special working conditions: Employees are exposed to the normal hazards of emergency rescue work, including risk of exposure to human body fluids and infectious diseases, thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements for blood borne pathogens. Description Of Work: Under general supervision, performs difficult professional life support work in operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and performing emergency care, including the administration of advance life sustaining treatment to patients on-site and while en route to medical facilities for the Emergency Medical Services Department. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, evaluating condition of patients, determining and applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, performing patients extrication and rescue operations and preparing and transporting persons to a medical facility. Employee is responsible for serving as a member of an ambulance crew, directing others in administering medical care to the patient and providing patient information to the medical facility. Work also involves performing basic life support skills and advanced life support skills such as defibrillation and cardio version, chest decompression, drug therapy and intubations, as needed. Employee is also responsible for maintaining vehicles, equipment and supplies; coordinating work with other public safety agencies during emergencies or disasters; performing janitorial duties at the base; and performing miscellaneous office duties. Minimum Training And Experience Requirements: Graduation from high school supplemented by training in emergency medical services for paramedics, and 1 to 2 years of experience in advanced medical service work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities. Carteret County Emergency Services is seeking highly qualified and motivated EMS professionals. Immediate openings for part-time QRV Paramedics. EMS operates 3 stations which provide Paramedic assist to 9 basic and intermediate squads and provide back up for 6 Paramedic squads. Supports locally and in state with a mass casualty trailer capable of triaging 100 patients and treating 50 patients. House and operate a mobile communications vehicle, water search and rescue with a 21’ Parker boat, and several other support trailers. Carteret County treatment protocols allow Paramedics to aggressively treat patients under standing orders in most cases. We are currently performing12 lead EKG with LIFEPAK- 12, RSI, EZ-IO, cricothyrotomy, med-port access, Med Fusion 3500 syringe pump’s, ET tube introducer (Bougie), King AIRTRAQ. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Thorough knowledge of all pre-hospital medical procedures and techniques currently approved by NCOEMS. CarolinaEast Medical Center-Emergency Medical Services (CarolinaEast-EMS) has openings for EMT- Paramedic positions. CarolinaEast-EMS provides Paramedic level services for the city of New Bern, Mutual Aid-ALS for Craven County, Pamlico County, Jones County and Beaufort County.
