NC Wilderness EMS Summit

The Carolina Wilderness EMS Summit is a Hawk Ventures and Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) supported EMS Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference attracting EMS personnel from throughout the southeast.  It is designed for emergency medicine providers both interested in or currently practicing in non-traditional environments.  Some of these may include Event Venue medicine, Trail Guide, Rafting Guide, Medical Support of Fire Suppression, Special Operations Teams, or SAR Teams.  Though particular emphasis will be placed on paramedics and EMS Fellow physicians, the course will benefit all participants.  Students will earn up to 16 hours of continuing EMS education credit.

This year's class will be held in the beautiful Pisgah National Forest of Western North Carolina but is limited to the first 30 registrants.  Teaching will be in small groups and will provide practical, relevant training in current Wilderness EMS procedures and principles.  The 2019 theme will focus on head and spinal conditions.  Students will receive intensive training in converting traditional EMS skills into an uneven, uncomfortable, vertical or suspended patient environment.  There will also be additional extensive technical training in other wilderness medical skills.  Although by necessity this training will include elements of technical rescue, the emphasis throughout will be on the field delivery of medical care in an austere environment out of imagined comfort zones.  In keeping with our "esse quam videre" philosophy, every effort will be made for your training to be hands-on and actual.  There will be NO classroom time in this course, our classroom is outdoors!
