EMT Course - Hybrid - at COA

Elizabeth City Campus: Class runs from 1/8/18 - 5/9/18. Instructor team is led by Paramedic Bethany Buttram. This class will meet Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm with four Saturday classes from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

The EMT Course is a one-semester program that has four components:

(1)    Classroom Lectures which includes cognitive examinations (approximately 70 hours),

(2)    Online Assignments (approximately 40 hours),

(3)    Lab Sessions which includes hands-on skills training (approximately 70 hours), and

(4)    EMS Field Mentoring (36 hours).  

Through lectures, interactive presentations, skills labs, and simulations, you will build the knowledge and skills to care for patients. This course will prepare the student for basic life-saving skills and to administer many emergency medications. This class will prepare the student to perform in the pre-hospital world.

EMS Field Ride-Along: As a student you must complete 36 hours of observation under the supervision of a preceptor at an affiliated EMS agency.  This may be completed starting mid-point through the course if you have completed all of the course medical requirements. The field ride-along must be completed within 30 days from the last day of didactic. The available shifts include day, evening, and weekends shifts (separate from the classroom hours).
