Edgecombe Community College EMS Provider Empathy Course (Hybrid)

Edgecombe Community College will be hosting an EMS Provider Empathy course.  This course will be a hybrid format with 9 hours being online and three hours being face-to-face.  There will be two opportunities to attend the face-to-face portion which will be March 30 and 31 from 09:00 - 12:00 at our Tarboro Campus in the McIntyre Auditorium.  You will only be required to attend one of the two dates.  The course will cover the following:

  • Diagnosis and Clinical Outcomes
  • Patient Enablement
  • Measuring Levels of Empathy
  • Detached Cognition in the EMS Provider
  • Meanings of Empathy and Detachment
  • Nonverbal Attunement
  • The Empathic Clinician and Emotional Attunement
  • Listening to the Patient’s Story
  • Barrier’s to Empathy
  • Neural Basis of Empathy Empathic Negotiation and Confrontation
  • Confrontation and Ethics
  • Confrontation and Emotional Gratification
  • Letting Go of Anger
  • Techniques to Deal with a Difficult Patient
  • Medical Frequent Flyers


Course Dates

Start Date: March 16, 2020

End Date: March 30 and 31, 2020


Course Fees

The cost of this course is $74.00 unless the student meets fee exemption requirements.
